The Utopia Maple Project began in 2014 as a research project to grow more valuable wood for both foresters and guitar makers. At Pacific Rim Tonewoods, we are interested in the question of whether figure in wood is genetically caused, and if it is, how we can grow figured maple trees that are suitable for luthiers, and the musical instruments they want to build.
